Olson and her research partners conducted ongoing monitoring of children under the age of 10 who identified as transgender and gender diverse and began a social gender transition.
One of the conclusions of this study is the fact that within 5 years after the social gender transition, 94% of the children remained consistent in the gender identity in which they felt comfortable.
Only about 6% chose to return to identifying with the gender they were assigned at birth.
